Testo - Legionella Kits

As the recent tragic events in Edinburgh have illustrated, the threat to humans from contracting Legionnaire’s disease is serious, and in some cases fatal.

The Legionella bacterium breeds in warm, moist conditions and in most outbreaks the source of infection has been the water or the cooling tower of an air-conditioning system in a large public building.

There may be a risk of exposure to Legionella if your workplace or premises has one of the following:

• A cooling tower or evaporative condenser
• Hot and cold water systems
• Spa pools
• Other potential risk systems

The best way to prevent an outbreak of Legionnaires’ disease is to ensure that any water system under your control is properly maintained and conforms to the relevant health and safety regulations. The two most important factors for preventing an outbreak of Legionnaires' disease are:

• Temperature – any water in the system should either be cooled to below 20ºC (68ºF) or heated to above 60ºC (140ºF)
• Hygiene – the water should be kept free of any impurities and never allowed to stagnate

Testo produce 2 instruments to help monitor the temperature of water, they are:
