TESTO DATA LOGGERS HELP LH GROUP SERVICES STAY ON TRACK
LH Group Services is the UK’s largest independent re-manufacturer of power train products. Established in 1953 the Group covers over 28,000 square metres of workshop space near Burton on Trent and re-manufactures in excess of 6000 power train products each year. If we take for example the rafts of diesel transmission units - DMUs - which LH Group Services are contracted to overhaul then the Testo T176-T4 channel temperature data logger really comes into its own. The data logger offers 4 channel temperature monitoring with external sensor connections, a robust design for optimum impact protection, parallel temperature measurement capability at up to four sites and a single, one-button menu navigation and large memory.
A tangible example of the new system in action occurs when the rafts are carefully checked on state-of-the-art test beds and data can be downloaded for extra information via the Testo logger at the post test stage. The main ongoing advantage occurs after the unit has been returned to the customer and LH Group Services is able to monitor the state of important functions out in the field to give early warning of problems and to assist in continuing development of better and more efficient systems. Typically, cooling performance is checked by monitoring the temperatures of the coolant both in and out of the engine. It can then be seen if the cooling system is not working as it should be – due to debris in the radiator for example. The data can be checked and exchanged on an ongoing basis to identify situations such as excessive engine stress or damage before it develops in to a serious matter.
Electrical Supervisor Brian Minion takes up the theme “The neat slim design of the data logger means that it can easily tuck in to minimal space on the control panel and when on a raft we fit two loggers then this gives us the added input of monitoring other temperatures such as hydraulic oil, lubricating oil and the temperature of the turbocharged air as well as collecting more information which is invaluable for the health of the raft. We now fit a Testo logger to every class 22000 DMU which we overhaul, and we are looking in the future to install them on other systems which whilst adding a stage to the project does pay back in terms of the benefits of the information which we get back. The multiple benefits for all concerned translate in to a better quality and more accurate refurbishment for the customer plus maintaining a smooth continual dialogue. It only takes 10 seconds or so to download the data on to an SD card. I can’t think of anything else so easy and effective. This is definitely the way ahead”.

Testo .vs. Flir | Thermal Imaging Camera's
Our resident thermographer was contacted by a person who had a leak in the under floor pipes in their house and who was rather unhappy with the job that was currently underway. The flooring was torn up and demolished throughout the extent of her entrance hallway, kitchen, living room and walkthrough. Now, this job cost the person in question a lot more than a call out fee to fix, or seek out, a leak in the plumbing system within her house.
The company called out will remain nameless, however they are not alone. We were unfortunately not granted permission to use the images of the property, as they contained the company and it’s employees. There are 100's of stories that we hear each year, where a company has been called out, the client has relied on their 'so-called' expertise, and the client has been let down and has been confronted with a more than hefty bill. This to us is unacceptable and need not happen. Using a Testo Thermal Imaging Camera , could be the preventative cure for all cowboy plumbers. Instead of digging up the flooring to locate a leak or issue, use one of our Thermal Imaging Camera's and the leak reveals itself to you.
Don't let this happen to you! If you are in doubt about any work that requires your floor being torn up, ask the service technician first, have they thermally scanned the area to determine the best entry point? Ask to see the thermal image for your self, if they are who they say they are and have thermally analysed the area, there should be no problem.
If it's quality and reliability your looking for, then look no further than Testo. If it's cost that drives your engine, then by all means look into our cheaper competition, just don't come crying to us when the visual and build quality lets you down. With the diversification into transport and mobile applications, Testo Saveris data monitoring system from measurement technology specialist Testo AG now offers a highly professional measurement and documentation solution for many different areas of application.
Testo Ltd is pleased to announce a new extension to the Testo Saveris Data Monitoring System, which now makes it suitable for use in mobile applications, for example, during the transport of food goods or pharmaceuticals.
The Testo Saveris Data Monitoring System continuously monitors temperature and humidity accurately and reliably. The easy-to-use system automatically measures, documents and issues alarms whenever limit values are exceeded.
During transport, probes continuously transfer and display measurement values and alarms wirelessly to a Cockpit Unit, which is situated in the driver’s cabin. At the point of delivery there is the option to print results on-site to an infrared printer. Once the probes come within the range of the Saveris system, all measurement values are automatically, and centrally stored in a database.
The new Saveris software now provides many additional functions such as the tour management with calendar function, for high flexibility during planning of measurement tasks. It is available in two different versions; The first being the Professional Software, which enables a detailed presentation of measurement value curves and further analysis functions for the recorded measurement data. The second being a 21 CFR-conform software which allows the complete integration of the access concept into the tried and tested Windows security system, and CFR-conform data storage with a serial number-secured database. CFR-conform printouts go without saying.
Both software versions generate un-editable PDF reports and can be created automatically, either daily, weekly or monthly. This means Testo Saveris guarantees uninterrupted monitoring and control of different processes – from production and storage, via transport, up to delivery.
