There are always two sides to every story and when talking about Gas Safety this maxim certainly holds true.
Both from the consumers point of view and the engineers side, there are certain steps which can be taken in order to make sure that potential risks and hazards are kept to an absolute minimum. The consumers involvement, as we have seen and heard over the last few days of Gas Safety Week, comes largely in the form of awareness and vigilance.
It is important that you know how to check that your gas engineer is registered and qualified to perform the work that you need doing. Don’t be afraid to check your engineer’s credentials, they should have nothing to hide. This coupled with the awareness of the warnings signs of a potential gas hazard will provide you with a solid base of knowledge to ensure your safety and the safety of those around you. (See our posts from earlier this week.)
On the other side of the coin; as a gas engineer there are also steps that you can take to ensure that you and your work are as safe as possible. One of the most important factors to consider is the regular upkeep and maintenance of your tools, instruments and analysers. A flue gas analyser, for example, requires routine service and calibration to ensure that the readings it provides are as accurate as possible, to remove any margin for error.
Here at testo we are pleased to say that we are a holistic, ‘total supplier’, meaning we can equip you with top of range, high spec technology and also provide a full range servicing and calibration options. Not only then do we provide the precision instruments that you need to get the job done but also the means to make sure that that precision is continued year on year too.
